Grocery industry vet’s first-time owner in Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY—Groceries are more than a commodity to be brought home, prepared in the kitchen and served at the table for David Vanyo.
Vanyo has spent his entire career in the grocery industry—one way or another. But owning a grocery store hadn’t been a top priority for him, yet became reality for the first time when he and wife Shelly officially assumed ownership of a Spring Valley supermarket this month.
“We weren’t even looking,” Vanyo said Wednesday, adding, “it was a good opportunity.”
The couple has changed the name of what most recently was Spring Valley Supervalu to Spring Valley Foods.
